Bengaluru, Aug 29: A fight between a woman and her husband resulted in the death of the wife on the night of Tuesday August 27. The gruesome murder took place at the second floor house of the couple at Basappana Katte in Rajagopalanagar in north Bengaluru.
The victim of the incident was Saraswati (36), who was an Anganwadi worker. Her husband, Mallikarjun, had come home drunk late that day. The couple lived in a house gifted by Saraswati's parents, who live in the ground floor of the same building. They were married since the last 15 years. Saraswati has left behind her two children.
As Saraswati censured her husband for his irresponsible ways, Mallikarjun picked up a machete and repeatedly hit his wife till she collapsed to the ground. Seeing the lifeless body of his wife, Mallikarjun realized his blunder, and went out, bolted his house from outside, and fled. Both the children of the couple were with their grandparents at the ground floor at the time of the murder.
Tarun, elder son of the couple, who returned home after sometime, saw his mother in a pool of blood and called out to his grandparents. Saraswati's father, Shivanna, reached there and called the police. The police came, scrutinized the scene of crime, and shifted the body for postmortem.
It is said that relatives had come together to strike an understanding between the duo a few months back, as they fought almost every day. Mallikarjun, it is learnt, is employed in a garments factory but often absented from work. He is from Tyamagondlu near Nelamangala.
The police, who have registered a case of murder, are investigating. A search has been on for Mallikarjun.
