New Delhi, Aug 27: The Supreme Court’s decision is crucial in deciding the fate of the disqualified MLAs, which in turn will decide the fate of BJP government in Karnataka. On Tuesday, August 27, the apex court decided to consider a plea for the urgent listing of the case.
On Monday, the court had declined to give any specific date of hearing. However, on Tuesday, the court gave an oral direction after senior advocates V Giri and Subhranshu Padhi made a plea on behalf of the MLAs who are disqualified.
The 17 MLAs who have filed for writ petitions are expected to request for urgent hearing on Wednesday.
Disqualified MLAs Pratap Gouda Patil, B C Patil, A S Hebbar, S T Somashekar, B A Basavaraja and Muniratna have filed a joint petition. They contend the orders passed by the speaker on July 28 are “wholly illegal, arbitrary and malafide”.
MLAs Roshan Baig, Anand Singh, MTB Nagaraj, Dr K Sudhakar, Shrimanth B Patil and R Shankar who are also disqualified, pleaded the apex court to quash the orders passed by the speaker.
Meanwhile, three JD(S) members A H Vishwanath, K Gopalaiah and K C Narayanagowda also filed their separate writ petition. They questioned validity of the speaker's order to disqualify them.
Even rebel Congress MLAs Ramesh L Jharkhiholi and Mahesh Kumathalli have filed a petition against the speaker’s orders.
