Mangaluru, Aug 27: Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) and Central Library Committee observed National Library Day in remembrance of Father of Library Science and Padmashri awardee Dr S R Ranganathan here at decennial memorial hall on Tuesday, August 27.
Dr Ravi Shankar Rao, professor, department of English, Mangalore University, inaugurated the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Ravi Shankar Rao said, "Library Day is something that has to be celebrated. It is a symbolical act as there is deep sense of commitment. This is a good beginning to celebrate Library Day which will begin symbolically and later transform into a practice. Knowledge makes one a better person and this is what library does. I wish everyone a happy Library Day.”
Meanwhile, Best Library User Award was given to students under different categories.
Dr Janet Jotty Lobo, librarian, Father Muller Charitable Institutions, briefed about the life of Dr S R Ranganathan.
Dr Venkatesh B M, chairperson, Library Committee, welcomed the gathering. Dr Sanjeev Fernandes compered the event.
Fr Rudolph Ravi D Sa, administrator, Father Muller Medical College, Fr Ajit B Menezes, and Dr Jayaprakash Alva, dean, Father Muller Medical College were present.
