Bengaluru, Aug 27: Former leader of BJP, former MLC and also senior advocate Ajjikuttira Kariappa Subbaiah died on Tuesday, August 27 at the Manipal hospital of the city due to age-related illness. He was 85 and suffering from kidney-related ailment since many years. He also underwent Dialysis four or five times.
Subbaiah was admitted to the Manipal hospital a few days ago. Though a slight improvement was noticed in his health condition, he is said to have lost his consciousness on Monday, August 26. It is also said that he wished not to be kept on life support and he should die a natural death.
Ajjikuttira Kariyappa Subbiah, who was a resident of Kodagu district was four time MLA. He was known for his straight, bold and fearless speech. Once upon a time, he was a faithful leader of Sangh Parivar. However, in later years he revolted against the ideals of RSS. In the later years, he was famous for the statements he was giving against RSS. He gave many controversial statements also. Due to these kind of statements even the Congress party maintained distance from him.
A K Subbaiah is one of the prominent leaders who put in efforts in the 80s to make BJP grow in the state of Karnataka. He was the president of state BJP in Karnataka and was a nightmare to the then Congress government led by R Gundu Rao. Under his leadership, BJP had won more than 12 seats in Karnataka in 1983 and created a new record.
The BJP started neglecting Subbaiah after the historical victory in 1983. Then Subbaiah was in the limelight through his anti-RSS and anti-BJP statements.
Subbaiah was one of the honest politicians the state of Karnataka had seen. He was against superstition also. He had participated in many anti-superstition movements.
