Sharjah, Aug 27: A travel agent working for a tourism company in Al Dhaid was arrested by police for duping 21 expats here, who were all set to go home for vacation.

Photograph of the fraudster was posted by Sharjah Police on their Instagram account on Monday, explaining how the fraudster duped at least 21 people. The Al Dhaid police, on receiving complaints against the accused, swung into action and arrested the man within 48 hours. The accused confessed to the crime and told the police that he did it because he needed money to pay his debts of more than Dh 100,000.

The accused told the police that he took money from the clients and made the bookings but did not hand over the payment to his company, so the bookings were automatically cancelled. The accused changed his residence and switched off his phone thinking he will not get caught.

The Al Dhaid police submitted the case to the public prosecution for the legal procedures.
