Panaji, Aug 27: Outdated and poorly graded driving schools in Goa will lose their operating license if they fail to upgrade as per the state transport department directives.

Transport director Rajan Satardekar said, “Some driving schools are not adhering to the guidelines issued by the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH), as a result of which quality of training cannot be maintained.”

As per transport department, there are guidelines issued in terms of premises, vehicle condition, age of the vehicles, classroom facilities and knowledge of the instructors among others, in order to ensure that driving schools impart quality training and skill to students.

As reported in TOI, Satardekar said, “The inspection of driving schools was done a few months ago, following which a checklist was drawn up to correct the various shortcomings of these establishments. Some have made improvements and some have not. We have issued showcause notices to the institutes that have not complied with the requirements to upgrade,”

“All hearings will take place this month. We may give some driving schools grace time if there are minor deviations. If they have major deviances or if they fail to comply, then we will cancel the licenses given to those driving schools. They must upgrade according to the guidelines issued,” Satardekar added.
