Mangaluru, Aug 26: The cheque distribution programme for the recent flood-affected victims of Mangaluru south legislative constituency area was held in the NGO auditorium near Mini Vidhana Soudha of the city on Monday, August 26.

As many as 214 victims, whose houses were damaged due to the stagnation of water were given cheques worth Rs 10,000 each. Five people, whose houses were partially damaged in the flood were given cheques worth Rs 95,000 each.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Vedavyasa Kamath said, "Earlier, because of silt accumulation in the storm water drains, the city used to get flooded in rain of one day itself. However, last time the silt was removed from all the storm water drains of the city at a cost of Rs 1.89 crore, due to which the city did not face much problem this year. However, because the flood waters entered the houses in low-lying areas like Jappainamogaru, Bajal, Boloor, Kasba Bengre, Kulur and Bangrakuloor the property and household things of the residents got damaged.

"Earlier, only Rs 3,800 was being given to the affected victims. However, this time around CM Yediyurappa has taken special interest and has ordered to pay Rs 10,000 to the victims. Accordingly, though it is delayed by four days, we have distributed cheques to 214 victims. Those who have still not added their names to the victim list can approach me or the tahsildar or revenue inspector or the village accountant.

"Five victims whose houses got partially damaged are identified. Earlier, only Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000 compensation was paid for them. Now Rs one lac is being given. In addition, 14 houses are completely damaged. Out of this, nine families of Jappinamogaru area are unable to live in their houses, though the flood water has receded. A plan is formed to provide those Rs five lac and a site to build a house. In addition, they will be given Rs 5,000 monthly as rent for a period of one year."

Speaking on the occasion, tahsildar Guruprasad said, "There are four legislative constituencies in the taluk of Mangaluru. Most of the victims are given relief cheques in their own constituency or village level. I have the satisfaction of providing the relief without any mistakes."

Including Clock Tower all works during the past government should be evaluated. So that we can completely rehabilitate the flood victims of both coastal districts.

Dear Mr. Kamath and Team BJP in Dakshina Kannada, Please investigate the cost of the Urva market which has been built at the cost of Rs. 13 CRORES. We can see so many multi storied building built in the city only at the cost of Rs. 2-3 crores. The new building won't look worth even for 5 crores. The hard earned money paid for tax and smart city fund released by the central government are grabbed by the selfish. Kindly investigate and evaluate the newly built Urva Market building.

According to our PM's speech in Bahrain, on Saturday ,all people have "Jan Dhan bank accounts". Since he is pressing on digital economy, this amount can be transferred to those accounts directly..setting an eg. for digital economy and I am sure if the govt does this, PM will get more supporters chanting his name during upcoming tours.
