Mangaluru: Mohandas Pai seeks facilities for linguistic minorities

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Aug 26: Chairman of Manipal Global Education and former director of Infosys Technologies T V Mohandas Pai, has sought for the implementation of a system whereby linguistic minorities are able to avail of all the government facilities for which religious minorities are eligible.

He was addressing a press meet after a function organized at World Konkani Centre here for distribution of tenth year's student scholarships on Sunday August 25. He pointed out that rights of religious and linguistic minorities have been explained in articles No. 29 and 30 of Indian Constitution. He accused successive governments of extending facilities to religious minorities alone since the last 70 years to the detriment of linguistic minorities.

He attracted the attention of the concerned to the fact that several communities including Hindus, Muslims and Christians speak Konkani. He noted that a number of facilities are extended to Muslims and Christians on the basis of their status as religious minorities. Kharvis and Kudubis get facilities under another department, but GSB community is devoid of any such facilities, he argued.

Pai said that there are only 20 lac people in GSB community. He said that a letter had earlier been written to the government, urging it to consider them as religious minority and extend different facilities to them. As there has not been any response, a letter would again be addressed to the government by way of reminder, he revealed.

Articles No. 29 states any citizen / section of citizens having a distinct language, script or culture have the right to conserve the same and no discrimination would be done. Whereas, Article 30 extend as a fundamental rights to minorities to establish and administer educational institutions. These two articles are thoroughly misinterpreted during 1990-2005 period while Congress was in power and a series of cases in constitutional benches were not defended properly by Government pleaders and attorneys as a part of international programme to extend undue benefits to minority. These case laws are cited in every subsequent litigation and we are in a vicious cycle. Ultimately, minority get undue benefits to make Article-14 (which states that the state not deny to any person equality before the law or the equal protection of the laws within The territory of India and that protection prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, Caste, sex, or place of birth) a farce and a joke. Article 29 and 30 shall be interpreted in the precincts of Article 14 and all undue benefits hitherto extended to religious or linguistic minority to make them a super race and a class above majority should be done away with. Any efforts to dilute Article 14 shall be defended in the interest of the nation.

Actually GSB community is completely off the Govt radar on jobs and reservations. Realistically, more than 30% of this community is in lower income segment with many finding it difficult to make ends meet whether in Mangaluru or Udupi or Karwar in Karnataka, with similar situation in Mumbai. In Kerala this situation is worse off as more than 50% are in poorer sections of society in Kochi, Calicut or Alleppey. Because of the Brahmanical order, there is nothing for them in caste or religious sections in any state Govt.

While Chairman of Manipal Global Education and former director of Infosys Technologies T Mohandas Pai seeks reservation for linguistic minorities, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat
wanted the abolition of the entire reservation system.

The reservation should be based on talent, performance, personality. But not on the basis of religion.
If every community wants the reservation, then in means dividing India.

Can India afford more violence like Patel, Jats, and GSB?
