Kasargod, Aug 26: A massive protest was held on the evening of Sunday, August 25, under the leadership of Catholic Sabha of Kasargod zone, condemning the recent attack on Our Lady of Mercy church at Manjeshwar in the district and also atrocities carried out on the Christian community.
The protest march started from the vicinity of Manjeshwar Block Panchayat, went via the road in front of the Manjeshwar church and ended up at Hosangadi Junction. Thousands of people took part in the protest march. The leaders of the protest march warned the district administration to hold fierce protest and also fast unto death, if the culprits are not arrested soon.
Raju Stephen Kumble, president of Kasargod zone Catholic Sabha, presided over the protest meeting that was held after the march.
The chief priest of Kasargod zone and parish priest of Bela Shokamatha shrine Fr John Vaz, parish priest of Kasargod Kotekani church Fr Mani Melvattam, president of Catholic Sabha central committee Rolphy D'Costa, secretary Naveen Braggs, Fr Manoj from Talassery, Joseph Crasta of Snehalaya, lawyer M S Thomas D'Souza and Jean Lavina were present on the dais.
Fr J B Moras of Narampady, Fr Daniel of Kollangana, Fr Francis Rodrigues of Varkady, Fr Valerian Katipalla, Fr Paul of Maniyampare, Fr Augustine of Pavoor, Fr Melwyn Lobo and Fr Santhosh of Kasargod and Fr Ani D'Souza of Miyapadavu were also present.
Fr Manoj sculpted the picture of Jesus Christ from mud, which attracted all the protesters. Raju Stephen welcomed the gathering. Veenu Bela rendered the vote of thanks.
