Mysore, Jun 26: All the Bishops of Karnataka assembled at Clergy Home, Prashanthi Nilaya, Mysore for a three-day retreat (KRCBC Retreat) here recently, which was preached by Rev Fr Dominic Veliath SDB. All the 11 Bishops participated in the retreat. This was the first retreat of its kind to be held in the state.
On the first day, addressing a well-attended congregation at the historical St Joseph’s Cathedral, Mysore, Archbishop Bernard Moras urged every one to emulate the great example of Church’s greatest missionary St Paul and proclaim the Good News with greater fervour. The Bishops present included Archbishop Bernard Moras of Bangalore, Bishop Aloysius D’Souza of Mangalore, Bishop Thomas Vazhappilly of Mysore, Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzy of Belthangady, Bishop Isaac Lobo of Shimoga, Bishop Peter Machado of Belgaum, Bishop Anthonyswamy of Chikmagalur, Bishop Robert Miranda of Gulbarga, Bishop Dereck Fernandes of Karwar, Bishop Joseph of Bethangady and Bishop Henry D’Souza of Bellary.
On the final day, CRI (Catholic Religious of India) annual meeting was held in Mysore, the theme being ‘Challenges & response in the Mission today’. 78 major superiors of religious congregations in Karnataka met at Dhyanavana, Mysore. The assembly was inaugurated by Bishop Thomas Vazhappilly. Archbishop of Bangalore Bernard Moras celebrated the inaugural concelebrated Holy Eucharist in the neighbouring shrine of Infant Jesus.
