Mangaluru, Aug 24: City police commissioner, Dr Harsha P S, said that orders will soon be issued to regulate speed of delivery boys of online food supply chains who move at high speed. He was responding to complaint raised on this issue by a caller at the Phone-in programme held at his office on Friday August 23.
He said that there is a need to review speedy movement of vehicles in the city and fix speed limits. He asked assistant police commissioner, Manjunath Shetty, to hold meeting on this issue so that a decision could be taken therein.
A citizen pointed out that a number of vehicles are parked in front of various police stations in the city. He suggested for disposing off of these vehicles at an early date. The commissioner promised to consider this suggestion.
Another citizen said that a bus moving between Kankanady and Kodikal cuts short three afternoon trips. He also noted that buses on route No. 13 ad 19 from State Bank also do not ply during afternoon hours, to the detriment of bus passengers. The commissioner said that this matter would be brought to the notice of the regional transport office.
When his attention was drawn towards concrete mixer trucks blocking the roads near under-construction sites, thus blocking movement of vehicles, the commissioner said that the issue would be examined and warning would be issued.
A woman told the commissioner that auto rickshaws in Shakthinagar charge 50 percent over and above regular fare to passengers. The commissioner collected details of the auto rickshaw concerned and asked assistant police commissioner, Manjunath Shetty, to act on the complaint. A caller said that there are no 'No Parking' boards at several places and vehicles parked inadvertently are towed away. He wanted these boards to be installed so that the vehicle drivers would know. The commissioner promised to act on this suggestion. He also asked the concerned to issue instruction to strictly follow time norms on loading and unloading of items in city areas in central market and other areas. He said that loading and unloading would be restrained from 10 am to 6 pm as the trucks create movement and parking of two-wheelers.
Dr Harsha, noting that many calls relate to problems which fall under different departments, opined that city corporation and other departments can together get involved with this programme for effective functioning, duly noting that law and order issues are raised occasionally. He also held discussions with the deputy commissioner on this issue.
