Mangaluru, Aug 24: The department of public instruction of the district had granted holidays to schools and colleges from August 5 to 12 in view of prediction of heavy rainfall. To compensate for the loss of classes, the department has planned to hold classes in the afternoon sessions on Saturdays, beginning from today.
Schools in Beltangady, Sullia and Puttur blocks were given holiday from August 5 to 12 while the other blocks got holiday from August 6 to 12. The department had decided to make good the loss of classes by holding additional classes on Saturday or Sunday. As there was widespread opposition for the proposal to hold classes on Sunday, the department has decided to conduct additional classes on Saturdays alone.
