Mangaluru, Aug 24: In connection with an alleged plot to kill leaders of Gowd Saraswat Brahmin (GSB) community, the Kadri police have intensified their probe. It is said that the police are acting on the information that Kerala-based 'Most wanted criminal' Sam Peter, who has been arrested relating to certain cases he faces, had planned either the murder or abduct prominent leaders of the GSB community here.
During the police investigation, it has come to light that Sam Peter, like he did in several cases in the past, had plotted criminal conspiracy by offering to act as middleman in the dispute over assets between the incumbent Swamiji of a leading Math of GSB community and the erstwhile disciple of the previous Swamiji, who had given up the religious order on his own. It is learnt that some leaders from this community had met city police commissioner, Harsha P S, two days back with a request to hold investigation into this angle of the arrested criminal.
Sam Peter
It is said that Sam Peter had established contact with the said abandoned Swamiji through a man named Ramachandra Nayak who owns Kalpana Residency in Udupi. During the police questioning, it has come to light that Sam Peter who held discussions with the former Swamiji referred above, had received advance amount of fifteen lac rupees from him for settling the dispute over assets of the Math in a way favourable to the latter. The police have since taken Ramachandra Nayak into custody.
The police have information that plans were afoot either to blackmail or intimidate Sri Samyamindra Swamiji, highly respected spiritual head of GSB community, or abduct or murder one of the GSB leaders who are close to the Swamiji. Based on this information, the police plan to question several people including the former Swamiji who is a part of this elaborate plan.
The police are learnt to have served notice on Thursday August 22 to the disowned Swamiji of GSB community asking him to personally appear for questioning.
In a swift operation, Kadri police inspector, Shantaram Kunder, had led a police team which succeeded in taking into custody Sam Peter and seven others from a lodge near Pumpwell here. Kadri police sub-inspector, Maruti, assistant sub-inspector, Dhanraj, head constable, Prashanth Shetty and other staff had participated. The case is being investigated by inspector, Shantaram, under the guidance of city police commissioner, P S Harsha, and deputy commissioners of police, Laxmi Ganesh and Arunankshugiri.
Mangaluru: CBI grills mastermind of numerous crimes, Sam Peter
Mangaluru, Aug 24: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team visited the city and questioned Sam Peter from Kerala, who was arrested by the Kadri police team here. Sam Peter has been accused of posing as an official of CBI and planning robbery. He was arrested along with his seven accomplices from a lodge near Pumpwell when Peter was planning a robbery.
CBI is engaged in the investigation of a huge cheating scandal in Gaziabad. Peter happens to be an accused in that case. Two officers of the CBI came here on Thursday, questioned Peter, and went back to Gaziabad. In all likelihood, the CBI officials may come again armed with CBI court order to take Peter into custody.
The five-day police custody of the accused ended, after which they were produced in the court on Thursday. As accused, Sam Peter's questioning has not yet been concluded, he was entrusted to additional four days of police custody by the court. The other accused are in judicial custody now.
The police are subjecting Peter to detailed questioning to unearth the crimes he has committed all over the country. The investigating officials are also interested to know why he came here, from where and for what purpose.
City police commissioner, Dr Harsha P S, said that all information would be provided once the investigation is completed.
It is said that the questioning by the police has brought to the fore some new cheating cases involving Peter. He has confessed about having been involved with ten criminal cases spread over Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, etc. The police of these states have been informed via e-mail. The police personnel from these states are expected to arrive here shortly in connection with their investigations.
