Bengaluru: First time in 300 years, economic conditions are favourable - Narayana Murthy

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Aug 23: Narayana Murthy, co-founder of IT giant Infosys, said that the present economic conditions are the best in the last 300 years of history. The existing economic environment promotes confidence that the economy can overcome poverty and proceed to a better future for the people, said Murthy at an event, reported PTI on Thursday, August 22.

Narayana Murthy also said that Indian economy is growing at a rate of six to seven percent this year, because of which the country has become global software development center.

The veteran businessman said that the portfolio investments from abroad and foreign direct investment in India are growing faster than ever and the confidence of investors in the country and abroad is at an all time high. In addition, the number of billionaires in the country is increasing, says the report.

The statement by Narayana Murthy comes at a time when the Indian Inc. is demanding a booster package from the government to sustain itself from the ongoing financial stress in the market. According to Rajiv Bajaj, managing director of Bajaj Auto, the slowdown of the automobile industry is its own making. Bajaj also said in an interview that the automobile industry has to look on its lacunae first rather than asking the help from the government.

Rajiv Bajaj further said that a drop to the extent of five to seven percent in the sales of two wheelers in the country cannot be called as financial crisis. He also said that the salaries of the employees account for only four percent of the total sales and there is no need for panic by the industry about cutting of the jobs.

See the fate of the poor man's biscuit, Parle Gluco & you get an idea of how jittery the economic situation is:
    Extracted from THE HINDU:
Demand for popular Parle biscuit brands such as Parle-G had been worsening since the rollout of GST
Parle Products Pvt Ltd, a leading Indian biscuit-maker, might lay off up to 10,000 workers as slowing economic growth and falling demand in the rural areas could cause production cuts, a company executive said on Wednesday.

A sharp drop in Parle's biscuit sales means the company may have to slash production, which may result in layoffs of 8,000-10,000 people, Mayank Shah, category head at Parle, said in a telephone interview from Mumbai.
“The situation is so bad that if the government doesn't intervene immediately ... we may be forced to eliminate these positions,” he said.
The slowdown in India's economic growth, which has already led to thousands of job losses in its crucial automotive industry, was accelerating the drop in demand, Shah said.

Market research firm Nielsen said last month India’s consumer goods industry was losing steam as spending in the rural heartland cools and small manufacturers lose competitive advantages in a slowing economy.

Parle is not the only food product company to have flagged slowing demand.

Varun Berry, managing director of Britannia Industries Ltd , Parle's main competitor, said earlier this month that consumers were “thinking twice” about buying products worth just ₹5.

I do not know the whole nation but at least sensible readers like daiji disagree on Mr. Murthy's statement including our beloved bhakts.
Mr Murthy talks about software industry as at present it brings him tremendous profit due to rock bottom value of a rupee against dollar but for a common man indian economy is worst in 300 years of history.

Along with the deep economic recession, the loss due to floods will make it even tougher for the survival of the common man!
This shows his ignorance of the ground reality or he is feigning ignorance for obvious reasons!

But looking at the the current scenario of the Indian economy his lines hardly get through into ones throat. At this moment crisis over fish meal factories and fishermen in coastal districts intensifying day by day. Fishermen losing huge amount of money since the factories still closed due to wrong policies of central govt.

It must be a typo. He probably meant to say 30 years. It is true. Some of my relatives who were tilling the paddy field with t-shirt and langoti are now owning palace like houses, imported cars, lavish parties with foreign liquor. Once a rickshaw pullers are now directors of financial institutions. Like Modi from tea seller to PM, these people are also worked their way up. If this is not a favorable economic condition of the country, then what will be? Mahathma Gandhijis dream of Ram Rajya is coming true. In some of my relatives home, it is "Vodle fest" (Santmary) everyday.
