Bengaluru, Aug 23: Four interstate robbers, who had barged into a jewellery shop of the city and opened fire on Wednesday, August 21, were caught by the city police in a well-coordinated hunt for the culprits. Shockingly, one among the robbers is a former BSF constable, who was dismissed from service.
The four had entered a jewellery shop at Guttahalli in the city and tried to loot the shop after firing gunshot. However, the bold husband and wife in the shop not only thwarted their effort but also chased them for a good distance. But the culprits managed to escape. However, the robbers had left a mobile phone and helmet while making good their escape, which proved costly for them as the police got clues from these items and apprehended them.
Balaji Ramesh Gayakwad (25), a native of Sholapur district in the state of Maharashtra, Balwan Singh (24). a native of Bhiwani in Haryana, who was a former BSF constable, Sriram Bishnoi (26), a native of Barmer in Rajasthan and Omprakash (27), a native of Jalore in Rajasthan are the arrested culprits.
According to the information shared by Chethan Singh Rathore, DCP Central, Gayakwad, the kingpin of the gang had involved in a bank robbery in Satara of Maharashtra state in the month of March and the police had issued a lookout notice for him.
Incidentally Gayakwad left Maharashtra after the bank robbery and bought two firearms from Bihar and then reached Bengaluru for his next robbery. He took Bishno and Omprakash, who were working as steel fabricators in Banaswadi area of the city, for the operation. In addition, he also roped Balwan Singh, who was dismissed from service of BSF as he had opened fire on one of his neighbour.
The gang after surveying various areas of the city targeted Samrat Jewels in Guttanahalli. They arrived to the shop on Wednesday in the guise of customers. Balwan, the dismissed BSF jawan, who was covering his face with a helmet pulled out a gun and threatened the owner of the shop Ashish. However, Rakhi, the bold wife of Ashish threw a steel chair at him immediately. Taken aback by the unexpected response, the gang fled the place.
The bike used by the gang in the act was found to be stolen from area of Race Course Road in the city three days ago. The gang was caught by the police near Vyalikaval Circle of the city, based on a tip-off.
