Mysuru, Aug 23: "Economic recession and job insecurity are affecting not only India. Most of the countries in the world are going though this phenomenon," noted union finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman.
She was speaking to media persons after holding meeting with officials of the tax department here on Thursday August 22 morning. She said that countries like China, Europe, Latin America and Uganda have been going through recession. "In these countries, employment in automobile industry has been adversely affected. Similar situation is arising in India too. To counter this, economic reforms are being brought about. Those who are criticizing the financial situation of the country should think about the inflation prevailing between 2010 and 2014," she added. She asked the critics to compare the price of toor dal and other things of need then and now.
On the allegation that entrepreneur, Siddhartha Hegde V G, ended his life because of pressure from tax officials, she said she has already given clarification on the issue in the Lok Sabha. Replying to the Congress charge that former finance minister, P Chidambaram's arrest was made at BJP's behest, she said that this behaviour was expected of the Congress. "The Congress, which ruled the country for several decades, perhaps misused the administrative machinery during their tenure in this way. They as a result, have been trying to put similar blame on the BJP. The BJP never indulges in politics of hate. One should have faith on judicial system of the country. Being a national party, the Congress is not right in making false allegations. Calling for and collecting information is within the rights of the enforcement directorate, central bureau of investigation etc. As a national party, Congress party did not behave properly on this issue. It should have a relook at this," she felt.
