Dubai, Aug 22: Bharat Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) chief Thushar Vellappally was arrested in Ajman, UAE in a cheque bouncing case.
Thushar, son of Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan, is currently lodged in Ajman Central Jail.
As per media reports, he was arrested as a one-crore-dirham cheque (Rs 19 crore) issued to a partner was dishonoured. The 10-year-old check bouncing case involves a petitioner named Nazil Abdulla, a subcontractor, from Thrissur.
However, Ajman police have not yet officially announced anything reagarding the arrest. As per sources, the police arrested him during a negotiation meeting at a hotel.
Thushar had contested against Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha elections from Wayanad constituency as the candidate of BDJS, an ally of the BJP-led NDA.
