Udupi, Aug 21: Udupi MLA K Raghupati Bhat, along with new minister Kota Srinivas Poojary and a delegation of fishermen, met chief minister B S Yediyurappa in his home office ‘Krishna’ to discuss issues relating to fishing industry and fisherfolk.
The delegation congratulated the chief minister for having waived off the loans given to fishermen and requested him to provide more subsidized diesel for their boats. They requested the chief minister to increase the compensation paid to the families of fishermen, who died in Suvarna Tribhuja fishing boat tragedy some months ago.
The chief minister, who listened to the requests by the delegation, said that he is concerned about the people of the coastal region and fisherfolk, and assured that the government will encourage progress of the coastal region.
Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, Vijayapura MLA Basavaraj Patil Yatnal, chief minister’s secretary Shivayogi C Kalasa, Udupi BJP president Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, chief secretary Kuthyar Navin Shetty, Kuyilady Suresh Nayak, Yashpal Suvarna, Gopal R K, Ravi Ameen, Pravin Kumar Shetty and others were present.
The Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd officials presented a cheque for Rs 5 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the relief and rehabilitation of the victims of the recent flood havoc in 20 districts of Karnataka.
MRPL officials and Ministers Basavaraj Bommai and Kota Srinivasa Poojari were present on the occasion.
Earlier in the day, Central Intelligence Bureau Joint Director Sapna Tiwari called on the CM at his home office Krishna in Bengaluru.
Yediyurappa also took time to visit the Adichunchanagiri Matt Pontiff Sri NirmalanandaSwamy at Vijayananagara and later went to Siddaganga Matt to meet Sri Siddalingaswamy and sought their blessings.
Ministers R Ashok, V Somanna, Basavaraj Bommai and Dr C N Ashwathanaraya accompanied the Chief Minister.
