Mangaluru: Reckless driver's video goes viral - Police commissioner Dr Harsha takes immediate action

Mangaluru, Aug 20: City police has been always known for taking quick action in reported cases of any offence. The use of social media is on an increased side by the police from a few months now. Now, police commissioner Dr P S Harsha took immediate action after an alert citizen posted a video of a reckless driver on social media.

In the video, the driver of a bus travelling from Karkala to Mangaluru, was seen speaking over mobile phone while driving. The incident took place on August 17 at 6:45 pm.

When a passenger dared to question him, the driver is seen misbehaving in return. The driver claimed that it was a call from his owner and also adds that he does not care about anybody.

As the video went viral, police commissioner Dr P S Harsha took strict action against the driver of the bus. He was fined Rs 1,100 for talking on mobile while driving and also for misbehaving with the public.

The police commissioner tweeted the video saying, “A case of negligent driving was brought to our notice by alert citizenry.. immediate action initiated and the errant driver challaned.”

    I myself is very scared to be a passenger on private buses, rash driving, faul language, over crowding , horn honking,. for the private buses is the time slot they have to reach. but putting any ones life in danger and not care about it is a serious moral crime. These privet bus drivers and the owners should be seriously finned. They should be made to realize no mistake will be gone unnoticed

    1100 rupees fine for this crime is very less. The fine should be Rupees 50000/- for this crime. Because it is the question of precious lives of hundred of people in the buses. Dear concerned officers, please change the value of fine as minimum 50000 rupees and get blessings of God by saving valuable lives of innocent people.

    As per new, the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2019, to amend the provisions under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 the driver has offended using the phone while driving and dangerous driving penalty (184) for which penalty can a maximum of Rs5000.

    Suspension of driving license under sections 184 and Power of officers to impound documents (206).

    In the wet road handsfree driving with merely fine of Rs1,000 is nothing but peanuts.

    Police commissioner should at least gave an advisory to all the drivers to use handsfree would have made more sense.

    Even I too experienced the same thing when I was travelling from mudbidre-mlore. First of all am very scary about the roads. The bus driver collect many num of parcels and whole journey he will b on mobile contacting about the parcels pickers. Next time I too will take vedio and forward to the police dept.

    Jossey sir, I agree with you. But at the same time as per driver version, his owner gave the call. So Police and RTO must cancel the bus also for 6 months . So in future owners will not disturb the divers. A lesson for them also.

    This is excellent. However when will action be taken against rickshaw drivers who refuse fares and act like goons with the public? Even the local traffic police constables are scared of them and refuse to intervene.

    Since the driver has told that he was talking with the owner of the bus, then action should also be taken against the bus owner who contacted the driver on mobile when he was on duty that too while driviing the bus. Not only bus drivers lorry drivers, four and two wheel drivers use their phone while driving which is very dangerous to the pedestrians and other vehicles. This is not stopped even inspite of heavy penalty revised recently.

    Correct, our Police Commissioner has taken right action. But as per driver it is a call from Owner. Ok. How he came to know that it his owner's phone call ???
    Next what Bus owners association is doing in this matter. Or they simply sit in the Phone in Programmes and watching the proceeding .???.

    It is good to observe that The Commissioner of Police Dr, Harsha has taken serious notice of offences by drivers with particular reference to bus drivers These individuals have their responsibility to protect the passengers whose lives are precious.

    Apart from offences like talking on the phone while driving, the bus drivers also stop at non-designated bus halts, over load buses with passengers and do parallel parking.

    I join scores of people in congratulating the Police department for their alert action.

    Now a days we public should act very cautiously and should be in alert state of mind.
    We normal citizens should be much prudent and watch our surrounding.
    If we see any suspicious items and people,should report to concerned authority with Audio or video proof.
    Big salute to the person who reported this incident to police.
