Mangaluru, Aug 20: MLA U T Khader said, "Media needs to clarify the source before publishing any kind of sensitive news and avoid creating confusion among people.” He was speaking with regards to the Beltangady satellite call and arrest issue.

Addressing media here on Tuesday August 20, U T Khader further said, "National security is supreme and the public needs to be more cooperative. Whenever a stranger approaches shops or hotels, at least you need to make a general enquiry about him or her. Background of the person need to be checked and details should be handed over to the local police station, if any one comes asking for house on rent.

“Media claimed that a person was arrested in connection with the satellite call made from Beltangady. Abdul Rauf is working at Al Madeena at Manjanady and is unaware about this development. Soon after the media highlighted about the arrest Abdul Rauf, he received series of calls from the police and Abdul Rauf had no idea of what was happening.

“In the recent development, media are seen highlighting that the officials of National Investigation Agency (NIA) visited the district as per their sources. This has created panic among people. Superintendent of police Laxmi Prasad himself has clarified that NIA has not visited the district. Media claims that they got information from the sources that NIA have visited the district related to the satellite call made from Beltangady. I urge the media to reveal the sources.

“The statement with regards to the NIA visit can be delivered only by the district administration, commissioner and superintendent of police as they are the authorised people to speak about this matter. When such sensitive issue is highlighted, there is going to be confusion among people,” he said.

    This is nothing but diverting the public mentality from flood victims those who neglected by Central Government. During the BJP Government, Manmohn Singh paid 1300 crores rupees to Karnataka for flood victims whereas our 25 BJP MP's got only 120 crores from Central BJP Government. Shame on you.

    India has slipped down two spots on the 2019 World Press Freedom Index compiled by Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

    India made its debut on this index in 2013 at 140 out of 180 countries. The rankings gradually improved, reaching 136 in 2017. However, the ranking has since slipped back to 140 in the 2019 index. The report claims that violence against journalists, including police violence, attacks by Maoist fighters and retaliation by corrupt politicians and criminal outfits is the current state of press freedom in India.

    The four pillars of democracy are Judiciary, Executive, Legislature and Media. This fourth pillar of democracy ensures that all people living in far off areas of the country are aware of what’s happening in the rest of their country. Media ensures transparency in the working of all the above three systems.

    These are the four pillars of democracy and if any of these pillars is not working properly then somewhere democracy is still not fully functional.

    The powers of each of these pillars vary from country to country. In India, no single pillar is made too strong.

    Unfortunately, no one in this forum new the draconian law passed in the just concluded Parliament session. The newly amended Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Bill, Public Safety Act bill misused against anyone opposed to the ruling establishment.

    As per the new bill, any individual person regardless of religion can be picked on suspicion of terror for six months without any charges. If a person employed abroad or working within the country, which corporate will employ him again with terror tag?

    If responsible media honestly reports with the authentic source of information the individual will not be harassed. I think naming and shaming of such media should be need of the hour for the citizens of this nation.

    Nothing is received from central govt for flood victims so..... brain washed channels wants to change the subject on terror and people will easily forget flood related issues.

    State and center is very safe...... no single news channels are there to question to powers........


    Due to channels TRP making, poor people should not die.....

    MLA UT Khader is right. This should be made compulsory in every news about the source of the news. Government must inform all Eletronimedia, news papers to publish below the news the source. Government must control fake news in WhatsApp also.
