Mangalore: Illegal Trafficking of Buffaloes: Two held

Mangalore, Jun 23: The policemen belonging to Kadri police station here found a truck carrying 18 buffaloes illegally from near Pumpwell Circle in the city on the morning of Tuesday June 23. The truck and the buffaloes have been taken into possession. Two men were arrested in this connection. The operation was conducted at about 5 am.

The arrested have been identified as Hamid from Kasargod Cherkala and Moidin from Vittal. Reportedly, the buffaloes were being transported to a slaughter house in Kasargod from Muloor near Kaup in Udupi district. Some activists of Hindu organizations, who were tipped off about the transportation, stopped the truck at Pumpwell Circle and informed the policemen.

The buffaloes were sheltered in the compound of Kadri police station. The accused will be produced in the court either today or tomorrow.

    While I understand that the cow is sacred and slaughtering it would hurt the sentiments of people, what is the problem with buffaloes. In Mumbai where the shivsena rules supreme, buffalo meat is sold as beef in the markets. If transporting buffalo is illegal then what about tranporting chicken or sheep or goats?.
