Mumbai Police get Armoured Vehicles to Tackle Terror

Mumbai, Jun 22: Stung by terror during the November 26 terror strikes, the city police received a shot in the arm in the form of 207 new vehicles, including three armoured vehicles, which were inducted into the police force said in Mumbai.

The city police received three armoured Rakshak vehicles, 150 motorcycles, 20 jeeps, nine vans, 21 towing trucks and four buses, Police Commissioner D Sivanandhan said.
















"There are three armoured vehicles being inducted today and two more will be obtained so that all the five regional controls in the city has an armoured vehicle," he said.

The city police would also be getting 12 buses totally in order to ferry large groups of police personnel more effectively, Sivanandhan said.

The total cost of the vehicles was approximately Rs 4 crore of which the three armoured vehicles , of Mahindra Rakshak make, had cost close to Rs three crore, he said.

    This is nothing but another form of corruption. They should spend all these funds and resources in going after true terrorists - Shiv Sena, Bhajarang Dal and BJP.

    Useless expenditure. The police needs draganov sniper rifles, Ak 47, Ak 56 and Ak 101 variants and they need to get at least 4-5 months of intensive target practice and fitness training. Only this can help them against attacks like the mumbai attack.

    Nice to see induction of fresh armoured vehicles to Bombay Police. This could be the result of major failure during 26/11 attack. Bombay police did cut a very sorry figure in tackling the situation. A total intelligence failure too. I hope the government also imparts intensive training, regular medical check ups for total fitness to handle the job along with these modern equipments. Success can be achieved only if modern arms provided with intensive training. Otherwise it will be like toys in the hands ov monkeys!

    Whatever the cost incurred, im sure was borne by the state govt. This what a proactive govt does where as in karnataka we blame the central govt for not providing the funds. We have funds only to buy MLA''s.

    Good infrastructure should result in better results. I am sure the Long standing demand of Mumbai Police is being fullfilled. They need more intelligence input now and act before it is too late. All the best. Let us hope Karnataka takes some leaf out of Mumbai''s Book..

    We feel more safer in Mumbai than in Karnataka. Mumbai police is more intelligent,hard working excellent in solving tough cases regularly, though the background of police in both the states remian the same. Amchi Mumbai is a great place where you feel safe at nights unlike in karnataka where even going out of your house some times is risky.
