Kasargod, Aug 19: Miscreants reportedly pelted stones at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Manjeshwar on the late night of Sunday, August 18.
The incident came to light only on the morning of Monday, August 19. The visuals of the dastardly act are captured on the CCTV camera of the church. There are two bike borne miscreants are said to be involved in the attack. It can be seen in the CCTV footage that one of the miscreant entered the compound of the church with stones in his hands and pelted stones at the church. The window panes of the front portion of the church is damaged in the attack. Both the miscreants wore helmets when they came to hurl stones.
Manjeshwar police visited the spot and registered a case. The investigation is continuing. The Catholic faithfuls gathered in large numbers in the church compound.
Harshad Varkady, president of zilla panchayat standing committee, A K M Ashraf, president Block panchayat, Thomas D'Souza, lawyer, Fr Francis Rodrigues, parish priest of Varkady church and leader of political party K R Jayananda have also visited the spot.
It may be recalled that the sand mafia gang had attacked couple Felix D'Souza and Rita D'Souza in Manjeshwar on the afternoon of Sunday, August 18. Rita D'Souza, who is seriously injured in the assault of the gang is being treated in a hospital at Mangaluru.
In the midst of the attack on the couple, stones were reportedly hurled at the church.
