Mangaluru, Aug 19: Tightened security, precautionary measures and verifications continued in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Sunday August 18 as part of the high alert sounded by the government.
The police conducted checks in commercial complexes, important temples, mosques, churches, airport, railway stations, bus stands, leading hospitals, IT firms etc in the districts on Sunday. They conducted in-depth checks in respect of people and vehicles which were found moving suspiciously. Night checks have also been beefed up. Check posts have been opened at the entry points of towns. Information is being collected in respect of people who newly checked into lodges, hotels, paying guest hostels etc.
Fishermen have been asked to keep close watch over suspicious looking boats and to contact the police in case of suspicion. Fishing boats from Kerala and Tamil Nadu which were subjected to verification by the Costal Security Police Force officials on Saturday returned to their bases from Malpe on Sunday. The Coast Guard has also made arrangements to keep vigil in all places in the twin-districts where the boats get anchored.
City police commissioner, Dr Harsha P S, held meeting of security officers of various public sector concerns in the city in which security officials from the airport, New Mangalore Port Trust, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd, Bharat Petroleum, Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers, Infosys, JPC, Bharat Petroleum etc participated.
