Mangaluru: People save man trying to jump off Netravati Bridge

Mangaluru, Aug 18: Some locals saved a man who was trying to jump off Netravati Bridge on Sunday, August 18. 

As per details available, the man was trying to jump off the bridge in a bid to end life. Some alert locals, who saw him, managed to stop him and then called the police. 

Mangaluru city police arrived at the spot and took the man with them. 

The name of the man is yet to be revealed. 

Many deaths and attempts of suicide were reported from the bridge in the recent past which includes the suicide of V G Siddhartha Hegde, founder of Café Coffee day.

    Hey Noel pereira,do u think it is possible to put a fence on the bridge.and then to have police patrolling the area.shocked at the IQ level.may be they should have a net under the bridge so that if anyone jumps they will be saved.and then there should be boats 22/7 under the bridge to save lives.

    The local government authorities should place a high fence on the top of the bridge / the river near by so that people cannot jump into the river. Also police /local trained volunteers patrol the area every few minutes.There should be a big sign placed to call distress support (toll free) phone in such areas.

    Now a days no business. No job. Prices are high. Because of chemicals in food items sickness is more. More money goes for medicine and doctors. Alchoholism. Harrasement by seniors in the company or office. Poverty. Borrowed loan cannot be paid because of low income. These are some of the reasons for suicide. Counseling will help them to give courage to live.

    Oh this Nethravathi bridge became gift for people who fed up with life.

    If any social work organisation willing to give service can keep a booth for 24 hours near the bridge to stop and council them. If some body do so God will bless them abundantly. They can ask donation from people for the expenses. IT is a very good work.

    I pray so that somebody will come forward.

    It is better to change the bridge name. I think the name of the bridge should be named as 'SUICIDE BRIGADE ' . This is new style of "BLUE WHALE " . This frustration started only after 2014. Because of Financial situation in India as collapsing.

    After Café Coffee day founder V G Siddhartha Hegde suicide jumping off from Netravati Bridge, this Mangalore bridge became famous like Aokigahara Forest of Japan a beautiful, dense forest in the shadow of Mount Fuji, with a tragic reputation.

    In recent years, Aokigahara has become internationally known as "the Suicide Forest", one of the world's most prevalent suicide sites and also the 'Forest' is a 2016 American supernatural horror film based on this site.

    I request the National Highway authority to set up a barrier on both sides of the bridge to prevent future attempts and also reconciliation center to set up for such victims.
