Mangaluru, Aug 18: The police were on high alert even on Saturday, August 17 as per the instructions of the intelligence department. They conducted intense search and security check in important landmarks. The alert continues on Sunday also.
Red alert is declared in beaches also. The fishermen have been given instructions to notify the police movement of any foreign or suspicious boat. Police conducted search operation, along with canine squad and bomb squads, at NMPT, MRPL, NITK, KIOCL and important commercial complexes of the city, hospitals and hotels. The police are keeping an eye on the moving vehicles also.
Metal detector has been installed in the renowned Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple and devotees are allowed only after screening from Saturday, August 17.
According to the instructions of the Dakshina Kannada district administration, maximum alert state is declared in the sea. Tippeswamy, deputy director of district fisheries, gave important information to the leaders of various fishermen organizations on Saturday. The information is being given to the fishermen through sound system also in fishing jetties.
Apart from Malpe, there are boat anchoring facilities at 32 places. The personnel of Coast Guard are stationed there. Coast Guard Navy has also intensified its patrolling.
In the taluk of Kundapur, high alert is declared in Gangolli port, Kollur temple, railway stations of Byndoor, Kundapur and Senapur. Byndoor circle inspector Parameshwar Gunaga oversaw the security arrangements at the Gangolli port.
Local and coast guard police along with bomb squad conducted special checking and investigation as the public expressed suspicion on the three fishing boats that docked at the Malpe St Mary's Jetty on the night of Friday. During inquiry, it was known that the boats were anchored in Malpe as the sea was rough.
There were 29 fishermen in three boats. The sources have said that they have been fined for crossing their fishing boundary. It is learnt that they could not return on Saturday as there were some technical faults in their boats.
