Bengaluru, Aug 17: “There is information that the state government will reduce the quantity of Annabhagya rice and use the funds in Krishi Samman project. If the government implements this, there will be protests inside and outside the assembly,” warned former chief minister Siddaramaiah.
Speaking in a news conference, he said that he had implemented Annabhagya scheme to benefit 4 crore poor people, when he was the chief minister. “The government has discussed about reducing the quantity of rice from seven kgs and using the remaining amount in Krishi Samman scheme. We are not against the government paying Rs 4,000 under Krishi Samman scheme. But reducing the quantity of rice being given to poor is an anti-people initiative,” he said.
“I had assured to give 10 kgs, if I came back to power. Quality food should be made available in Indira Canteens and the government should bear the cost. More Indira canteens are required in other districts besides Bengaluru. BBMP says that government cannot pay for Indira canteens. The state government should ensure these schemes continue to run. If the current government discontinues populist schemes implemented by the Congress government, people will protest,” he said.
‘There is no government in the state’
“It is 22 days since B S Yediyurappa became the chief minister. There is drought in 42 taluks in 7 districts in the state. Rain is scarce by 20% but none of the taluks are declared drought hit,” lashed out Siddaramaiah.
“The state government has not released funds since February. Where is Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas? This is the first time in the history that Independence Day was celebrated without district-in-charge minister. This is shameful,” he said.
“The prime minister should have monitored the flood situation. The survey is not done. Report of destruction is still not submitted to the centre. The PM has made no assurance of funds. When will the compensation release?” he questioned.
“None of the earlier prime ministers have neglected the state to this extent and insulted the chief minister,” he said.
“I will tour the flood affected areas from Monday. The centre should release Rs 5,000 crores immediately. BSY does not speak in front of PM Modi. Let the CM take an all-party delegation to the PM. We will speak to the PM,” he said.
“The government has no eyes or ears. The PM has not spoken about the floods. But why did they not submit a report on destruction?” he questioned. If all the work is to be done only by officials, what is the need of ministers? Why do you need power?” Siddaramaiah asked.
