Mangaluru, Aug 17: Dr Mariam Anjum Iftikhar from here has secured MCH in gynaecological oncology through Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. She has studied different types of cancers affecting women at high level.
Dr Mariam is credited to be first specialist doctor from Dakshina Kannada district to acquire specialization in these departments.
Dr Mariam, who was a talented student right from her school days, always got seats on the basis of her merit. She has now achieved the goal of successfully completing high level study in medical science.
After securing MBBS degree from Fr Muller’s Medical College in the city, she completed her postgraduate MS degree in gynaecology and obstetrics (OBG) from Yenepoya Medical College. She then completed fellowship in women's cancer in Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology at Bengaluru. She also got specialized training there in palliative oncology treatment, chemotherapy and other kinds of cancer treatments including high risk GTN. Now she has obtained her MCH degree from Kochi-based Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences.
Dr Mariam has acquired specialist training in breast, uterine, vaginal, ovarian, cervical, vulva and other types of cancers. She also has expertise in robotic surgery.
Dr Mariam's research articles and presentations have been published in a number of national and international publications. She also has delivered lectures at different forums. In the recent past, Dr Mariam, who presented her essay in a medical symposium held at South Korea has been invited to take part in an international medical conference being held at Brazil along with offer of scholarship.
Dr Mariam happens to be the daughter of Natty Moideen Kunhi couple and granddaughter of A S Manippady. She is the daughter-in-law of former MLA U T Fareed, and wife of Dr U T Iftikhar, brother of former minister, U T Khader, and happens to be a syndicate member of Rajiv Gandhi Gandhi University of Medical Sciences. Iftikhar couple have two children.
