Chamarajanagar, Aug 16: In a shocking incident, five members of a family shot themselves and committed suicide at Gundlupet of the district.
There are two men, one boy and two women among the dead. They are identified as Om Prakash, his wife Nikita, son Arya Krishna, mother Hemalatha and father Nagaraju Bhattacharya.
This family had come to Gundlupet from Mysuru three days ago and had stayed in the farmhouse of their friend, who is a resident of Elachetti village. Later, they booked a room on the night of Thursday, August 15 in a lodge in Gundlupet in the name of Om Prakash. Om Prakash had sent back Chetan and Suresh, who had accompanied the family.

Om Prakash had called his friends around midnight on Thursday and said that he had failed in life as the very people, whom he trusted had betrayed him. He had also told them to take back his car, which was parked in the Gundlupet town market area.
On the morning of Friday, August 16, all the five members killed themselves by shooting on the outskirts of the town in the land belonging to Prof Mahesh Chandraguru. Prof Chandraguru is working as a professor in the journalism department of Mysuru University.
Though the exact motive behind their collective suicide is not known, it is suspected that financial hardship is the reason for the mass suicide.
Om Prakash was running database and animation companies in Mysuru. He had lost crores of rupees in the database company. Later he was running an animation company. Om Prakash, who is a native of Tumakuru was residing in a house near Jodibevu tree of Dattagalli extension in Mysuru.
Chamarajanagar superintendent of police Anand Kumar visited the spot. Forensic experts also arrived on the spot and are conducting spot inspection. Sister of the deceased Om Prakash and other family members rushed to the spot, as soon as they got the news of the mass suicide.
