Bengaluru: Not villages, but layouts to be named after donors - BSY changes statement

Bengaluru, Aug 16: Chief minister (CM) B S Yediyurappa’s novel strategy to collect relief funds for Karnataka floods has backfired, and he was forced to retract his statement.

On Wednesday, the CM had announced that villages would be renamed after industries and corporate houses who pay Rs 10 crore and more towards state flood relief.

After receiving severe criticism, on Friday, a clarification was released from the chief minister’s office that only new layouts developed in the villages will be named after the donors. However, the names of the villages will not be changed.

The CM’s statement on Wednesday drew flak from critics and opposition. “The name of every village in our state has its own background.

Villagers, who have already lost much in their floods, should not lose the name of their village, too. Don’t keep Karnataka on sale,” JD(S) tweeted from its official twitter handle.

JD(S) also equated Yediyurappa’s decision to that of ‘Tughlaq’.

Meanwhile, critics argued that name of every village has a rich historical and cultural background and renaming villages could lead to loss of identity.

No Problem. Any number of names you may name. But make sure your Babus and Netas don't swallow the flood fund.
" Flood" boon or a curse for the ruling governments of various flood hit states (irrespective of Political Party they belongs to) across the country is a million dollar question !

Will not be surprised if it further changes to only buildings and houses. Guess villages are reserved for political big names only.

No vision ..this is the problem . Invest 100 crores and make a simple thing like a cow museum ..where we show all our local breeds , buy cows for yourself ,things we can make of dung , urine, research , products you can make of milk , you will get thousands of daily visitors and just charge 20 rupees and you can employ around 100 doctors and make it a university ...global university for cos research ..

Every village or place has been named based on the culture and history associated with it.

The name of a village is associated with the sweat and toil of hundreds of Kannadigas. How can you sell it all off for a mere 10 crores?

Just because Rs 10 crore is given, should we change our names too?

The BJP Chief Minister of Karnataka idea seems to like that of Tughlaq’s,”. “People have lost all their belongings and now he wants to take away their identity too.

If tomorrow some Pakistani industrialist from Europe donates, a village destroyed in Shivomogga district after Jinnah layout will BJP will accept the donations?

The BJP is only good at buying MLA's. Absolutely no respect to the land of Kannadigas.
