Mangaluru: 35-year-old man dies of suspected dengue

Mangaluru, Aug 15: Dengue fever claimed another life in Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday August 14. With this, the number of deaths due to suspected dengue in the district has crossed ten. 

Ganesh Karkera (35) from Jeppu Patna here lost his battle for life on account of the said disease. He was admitted into a private hospital in the city on August 13 for treatment of suspected dengue. But without responding to treatment, he breathed his last on Wednesday morning. The private hospital doctors attributed his death to suspected dengue. 

Ganesh was employed in the office of Sagar Travels at Jeppu. He also was a member of Goddess Adimaheshwari Bhajana Mandir at Jeppu.

    Blood test need to be done when you have symptoms like headache, body pain, shivering followed by high fever. Doctors will say it's viral fever and send you back and will only do blood test after 3-4 days of continuous fever. By then the platelets count will drop drastically and the next thing you know is you need to be hospitalised. My daughter had all the above symptoms and I insisted for a blood test and it was dengue positive. Platelets count was 1.86 thousand. Took her home and gave papaya leaf juice (1.5 teaspoon with 1 teaspoon of honey) thrice a day. Fed her fruits like kiwi, dragon fruit, papaya and pomogranate and lots of fluids like limbu sharbat and she was fine within a weeks time. Platelets count went up to 3.86 thousand in 4 days. Those who are having fever, please insist for a blood test. Hope and pray that there are no more deaths due to dengue.

    1.86 thousand ....What is this arithmetic? We know 1.86 lacs,but never heard 1.86 thousand..is it 186000 . Please mention clearly..If it is so easy to get platelets enhanced then why all hospitals in Mangalore are full with dengue cases ?.Is it the fear psychosis?

    Mahesh, I am not an expert nor a medic. Shared my experience if it is helping save a life. Hospital report said 1.86 thousand and I figured it is 1 lac 86 thousand. More than understanding the arithmatic terms, getting my daughter cured was my priority and I googled up on what could be done.. There is a lot of information on dengue and how to get the platelets count up available. Lot of home remedies from Ayurveda/homeopathic experts also available. I used the papaya leaf extract which was easy to find in Udupi. Did not rely on hospitals alone. The key here is early diagnosis. It's me insisting on a blood test for dengue, malaria and typoid when the doc said it's viral fever saved my daughter from getting hospitalized. Those who are having fever, specially in rainy season, please insist for blood test.

    The future smart city of Mangaluru became the epicenter of the 'Dengue' despite one of the best health care system.

    I was thinking only Bihar and Uttar Pradesh lacks health care facility. But educated district after reading heap of garbage article it is confirmed that people only voted for Modi not for development.

    Where are those Swach Bharath volunteers who are busy posing pictures? Is BJP still going to blame for 70 years past even after ruling for 25 years in the city?

    When the emotional politics based on religion take over the development lacks. The innocent like Ganesh Karkera becomes victims of poor health care management and waste management.

    Some strains of dengue are very dangerous and attack the heart & kidneys which often is fatal, although we as laymen take dengue generically!! Or sometimes dengue may occur concurrently with malaria or influenza which is life threatening!

    Incidentally, Mumbai hospitals are presently filled with flu/influenza patients which has taken a very virulent form this year!!

    Government is useless not taking any measure to avoid dengue lots of garbage thrown is road no proper drainage system in manglore area .bad smell come from sea ..

    Dengue mosquitoes breed in clean water stored mostly in flower pots, washing machines, aircodioners etc and bite during the daytime only!
