Mangaluru: District limping back to normalcy - Rain gains in intensity

Mangaluru, Aug 14: Dakshina Kannada district, which had been affected by floods due to heavy rains, is returning to normalcy. At this time, rain has been gaining in intensity again. On Wednesday August 14, the district experienced cloudy weather with good rainfall. 

The people put up in relief centres are getting assistance from the public in large quantities, and relief works are moving ahead on a war footing. Shiradi Ghat and Sampaje Ghat roads have continued to be functional for the third day in succession. But the railway line between the city and Bengaluru has not been opened because of fresh landslides in Sakleshpur section. 

As the meteorological department has predicted chances of heavy rainfall between 1 pm on Wednesday to 8.30 am on Thursday, red alert has been issued. Orange alert has been issued till 8.30 am on August 16 and two days of yellow alert signifying light rain has also been issued thereafter. The fishermen and people have been asked to stay away from sea during the red and orange alerts. 

Dakshina Kannada district received an average of 48 mm rainfall during the period from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning. Bantwal got 67.3 mm rain, Beltangady 36.4 mm, Mangaluru 69.9 mm, Puttur 31.2 mm and Sullia 35.4 mm rain. 

It is learnt that on account of heavy floods which inundated several parts of Uppinangady on Friday and Saturday, the government model school having a history of 175 years and located in the heart of the town lost heavily in the form of records, books, midday meal rice, milk powder, computers, and various other items worth lacs of rupees. 

The 204 flood affected families in Beltangady taluk will receive first installment of Rs 3,800 each by way of cheques now as per NDRF rules, the officials said. They clarified that the written order about the declaration made by the chief minister to disburse Rs 10,000 each to these families has not yet been received. District deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, clarified that cheque of Rs 6,200 comprising chief minister's relief fund would be issued within a couple of days.

    Our elected masters believe , people need pay taxes so that they can live lavishly. Its their firm believe that tax payers do not have right on the taxes they pay. Masters will have a sole authority of throwing alms at the subjects .

    Is it a joke?
    You just can't buy even a bottle of soda and chips after buying 2 bottles of Jack daniels with that money!!!
