Bengaluru, Aug 14: The intensity of rain has reduced in some taluks of the state. The school going children have got many leaves because of the incessant rains. The public instruction department has reportedly taken various actions to upkeep the health and safety of students.
Many school are converted as relief centres for the stay of people affected by deluge. Some schools have collapsed due to the downpour. The government has to make alternative arrangements in such places for the education of children.
The education department of the state of Karnataka is thinking of holding classes on the upcoming holidays and also full day on Saturdays. The classes will continue as prescribed in the month of April as per the information provided by the officers of the school education department.
K G Jagadish, commissioner of public instruction department said, "During natural calamity we do not give importance to running the schools. It is left to the discretion of the zonal education officers and the head teachers of various schools to conduct the additional classes in order to compensate for the lost classes. They are instructed to cooperate with the district administration in this matter."
The public instruction department is also monitoring whether classes can be held in the school buildings, which are damaged due to rains. Engineers of PWD, Panchayat Raj and Rural departments are also asked to conduct the inspection of schools with regards to their structural safety.
The public instruction department has also asked the Deputy Directors of Public Instructions (DDPI) to submit a report within August 16, if the school children have lost books or other study materials in the recent deluge.
