Udupi, Aug 14: Two fishermen lost their lives in two separate incidents which happened at Malpe and Padubidri on Tuesday August 13.
Sanjeeva Kotian (55) from Kaup Uliyargoly who had accompanied other fishermen during a fishing trip on a country boat died after a huge wave violently heaved his boat about two kilometers away from the coast. He was on a country boat titled 'Katyayani' that was going towards Hejamadi from Malpe via Padubidri. When he was pulling the fishnet near Padubidri, Sanjeeva Kotian lost his balance when his boat went up and down, and fell into the sea.
About 20 fishermen of the country boat brought him up, provided him treatment, and took him to the district hospital at Ajjarkadu Udupi. But the doctors there said that he had died before reaching the hospital. A case of unnatural death was registered in Padubidri police station in this connection.
Another fisherman, Govardhan Kunder (42) from Udyavara Pitrody collapsed when undertaking fishing in a trawl boat and lost his life.
Kunder had left the port on the morning of August 12 by the fishing boat, 'Shivagiri'. At around 12.30 pm on Monday, when the boat was engaged in fishing near Malpe Light House, he suddenly collapsed and lost his consciousness.
His colleagues immediately admitted him into the government hospital at Udupi. The doctors who tested him confirmed that he was no more. A case in this respect was filed in Malpe police station.
