Mangaluru, Aug 13: City’s new police commissioner Dr P S Harsha has formulated a strategy on tackling crimes in the city and enhancing friendliness between the people and police.
Harsha, took to twitter on Tuesday, to announce he has conducted a meeting with all police officers and spelt out priorities such as strengthening of basic policing at police stations with beat as focus, zero tolerance for rowdyism, illegal activities and heavy crackdown on drug mafia.
Dr PS Harsha, a 2004 batch IPS officer took-charge as the Mangaluru city police commissioner on August 9, Friday. It is his second stint in Dakshina Kannada, as he has served as assistant superintendent of police, Puttur in 2017.
Even in his first interaction after taking over as the commissioner, Harsha had stressed on tackling substance abuse related issues and putting an end to it logically. “I am aware any growing city has substance and drug related issues. I will analyse, study and understand the magnitude of the problem. Next will formulate a strategy by taking educational institutions and managements into confidence,” he said.
He also said that he will take appropriate legal measures against those involved in betting, rowdyism and matka cases.
Most importantly, the commissioner had stressed on strengthening police stations with community participation. “Support of people’s representatives, community leaders and media is essential,” he said.
