Mangaluru, Aug 13: Aati month is the fourth in the Tulu calendar according to Sun. There is a saying in the Tulu language that Aati month is the enemy of auspicious occasions.
People of Tulunadu believe that Aati is the month, which brings many infectious diseases. So they have a belief that 'Aati Kalenja' (a costume that is put in this month by a man) will come and scare the diseases of the village away.
It is very rare to hold Daiva Nema in the month of Aati. However, in Peruvai Guthu of Bantwal taluk Nemotsava is held in the month of Aait, which is rarest of rarities.
Scores of devotees attend this Mecchi ritual. As per every year, this year too, the Nemotsava of Panjurli and Dhoomavati Daivas was held on Sunday, August 11.
