Kadayam (TN), Aug 13: Two masked intruders with an intent to commit robbery at the home of an elderly couple, ended up running for their lives after the seniors thrashed them with plastic chairs. The incident took place in Kalyanipuram, Kadayam in Tamil Nadu. The victims Shanmugavel (70) and his wife, Senthamarai (65) showed extreme bravery, which was captured in a minute-long CCTV footage.
The footage shows a long tussle between the intruders and the couple. It begins with one of the robbers sneaking up on Shanmugavel and trying to choke using what looks like a piece of cloth. After which, Shanmugavel screams to draw his wife’s attention outside. Once Senthamarai sees her husband in trouble she begins flinging slippers placed on the floor, at the intruders. The accused who are armed with sickles use it to threaten the couple who are relentlessly thrashing them. The incident took place late evening 9 pm on Sunday, August 11. When asked regarding about this grave incident, the couple stated that they have been staying in a farmhouse which is in close proximity to a forest. Given that they stay in an isolated area they were well aware of the dangers they would face. The elderly couple have been staying in the same house since over 40 years now.

When asked about her bravery displayed during attack, Senthamarai said, "I have always been bold, right from a young age, I knew we had to fight back and when we did, the intruders actually got scared. One of them hurt my hand with the sickle and in that gap, managed to steal my gold thaali, which was four sovereigns. But my husband is unhurt and I am happy we chased the intruders away.”
The local police have filed an FIR and the investigation is underway. But, the police are yet to identify and apprehend the accused.
