Mangaluru, Aug 13: Buses between the city and Bengaluru have begun to move via Shiradi Ghat road since Monday during the day. Trucks and other vehicles were also allowed to use this road. This has come as a big relief as movement of vehicles through Charmadi Ghat road has stopped since many days.
Private bus company sources said that their buses were operated via Shiradi Ghat stretch at night. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation sources, however, said that their buses moved via Madikeri and Mysuru.

On Monday, private buses charged normal fare of Rs 700 to 800 per person for Bengaluru trip from here. Bus travel rates had touched Rs 3,000 when bus transport had become scarce two to three days back. Flights to Bengaluru are full and airfare has gone up by two to three times. Sources said that during critical times, ticket prices were hiked even to the extent of Rs 12,000 from the earlier Rs 2,500 to 4,000, sources said.
Bus transportation on Agumbe - Shivamogga route, which had been suspended because of heavy rain, resumed since Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, all buses on the route will ply, source stated.
