Mangaluru, Aug 12: On Sunday August 10, a person assaulted a member of Ullal city municipal council. The victim of this attack, identified as Mushtaq Patla, happens to represent Kallapu Babbukatte ward of Ullal city municipality.
Allegedly, the assaulter was Jaleel, brother of a former municipal councillor from Kallapu Babbukatte, Usman Kallapu.
On account of torrential rainfall, water had accumulated at Kallapu. Mushtaq was engaged in the work of clearing the mess with the help of civic workers on Sunday. During this process, some insecticide was sprayed in order to avoid infectious diseases from spreading in the area. During this process, Jaleel, on the silly pretext that during spraying, some insecticide fell on a child, took Mushtaq into task and attacked him, said Mushtaq, who has got himself admitted into Sahara Hospital at Thokkottu.
In the municipal election, Mushtaq had contested against Usman Kallapu and registered victory. Usman Kallapu, who had once functioned as municipal councillor, had to taste defeat. Mushtaq and his supporters have accused Usman Kallapu of attacking Mushtaq based on lame reason because of the enmity he was nursing against Mustaq because of the said defeat.
SDPI condemns
SDPI Ullal city committee and party councillors have condemned the physical attack on Mushtaq Patla, an independent councillor representing Kallapu Babbukatte ward. SDPI state secretary, Akram Hassan, and SDPI councillor, Rameez Kody, visited Mushtaq Patla at the hospital. SDPI city committee has urged the police to register case against the attacker and his supporters for assaulting Mushtaq Patla as part of the political conspiracy hatched of Mushtaq's political adversaries when he was engaged in relief works. The committee also demanded for registration of case against the attackers and his supporters. They urged for their arrest without delay.
