Airlines take advantage of deluge, M'luru-B'luru flight ticket price jumps to Rs 16,000

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Aug 11: Almost all the road connection from the city to the capital of the state are closed due to landslides and flooding. The only option left for the passengers of the coastal region to reach the capital is through air. Noticing the increase in demand, the airlines, instead of giving rebate during devastating natural calamity the state is facing, have skyrocketed the price with the intention of making quick bucks.

Shiradi Ghat and Charmadi Ghat are closed due to landslide. The state highway that connects Bantwal with Mysuru is disconnected due to the water from the Cauvery river overflowing on the road at Koppa of Kushalnagar.

The train connection to Bengaluru is stopped due to landslide as well water logging on the tracks. So the travellers of the coastal region who want to go to Bengaluru have to make use of the last option of travelling by air, which is the last option left to them. However, the airlines have suddenly increased their price eight folds. The ticket fare between Mangaluru-Bengaluru is Rs 2,000 on normal season. However, the fare on Sunday, August 11 was Rs 16,000.

IndiGo and SpiceJet have four flights flying from Mangaluru to Bengaluru. The hapless passengers are cursing the airline companies for looting them instead of showing compassion and reducing the prices of ticket.

During normal season the price between Mangaluru-Bengaluru is Rs 2,280. However, on Friday, the rates ranged from Rs 9,715 to Rs 53,600. The price quoted by Air India on August 11 was between Rs 14,600 to Rs 15,596. IndiGo quoted Rs 17,599. The fares for August 12 quoted by Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet are Rs 18,851, Rs 10,673 and Rs 10,214 respectively.

UDAN stands for Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik(Let the common citizen of the country fly.)
, a scheme launched in October 2016. First flights were flagged off last year with much fanfare and slogans like Hawai yatra in Hawai chappal.

PM Modi's UDAN project one-hour flights capped at Rs 2,500 for flights less than 500 Km or one hour, 50% of seats on every flight will cost Rs 2500 per seat under the UDAN scheme.

The carriers which have won the bids to fly to unserved airports in tier-2 cities include Air India's subsidiary Alliance Air, Air Deccan, SpiceJet, Air Odisha, and Turbo Megha.

But when it comes to the Mangalorean's fate, UDAN seems to out of pocket reach. This the same constituency once represented by late Danajay Kumar from BJP represented as a Civil Aviation Minister.
Flight time from Bangalore is 1 hour. Distance from Bangalore to Mangalore is approximately 300 kilometers.
All its aircrafts were grounded. Lessors and debtors were knocking on the company’s doors for repayment; and oil companies refused to refuel any of its aircrafts.

But Ajay Sing SpiceJet has survived. Ajay Singh, Spicejet Owner And The Man Who Coined 'Ab Ki Bar Modi Sarkar'.
His good relations with the current government helped him secure the support of PMO (prime minister’s office), MoCA (ministry of civil aviation) and DGCA (directorate general of civil aviation), something that Dr Vijay Mallya of Kingfisher didn’t get in his times of trouble.

It is believed that only vegetable prices go up after floods. For Mangaloreans, thanks to the Spice Jet with the closer of Jet Airways comes as a blessing to rip them off.

In even in the lean periods, last minute booking is in the excess of Rs. 15000. Kindly do not exaggerate this with how budget airlines operate. Kindly also check the price one month later. It will be available at bottom price. Rs. 2000 was never the price in the last 3 years.

Most of airlines are running on losses. Lot of debt to run airlines. Let people travel who need the most and can be affordable. Who did force others to travel. Other transport available easily. In good olden days airlines are there...still people are surviving. Fuel cost increased.

Langool & Suresh , U people know very well that Oscar is no more Road & transport minister. Gadkari, becoming Road & Transport minister has reviewed the tunnel project & even Gadkari has proposed for Tunnel in Shiradi. Last week we drove through Shiradi Ghat. In spite of spending Crores of rupees by new Government the ghat is in a pathetic condition. Now U people please question the new government why they have failed miserably to provide us a smooth motor able road. Let me tell U people that no government will ever provide us good roads & highways. These projects r money making machines for our politicians. Unfortunately we only blame previous & present governments.

    No Morals: no scruples.
if it was. Japan: Korea: They would have helped out in every single way of inconvenience caused due to Natural Calamities.whilst here they think of MONEY only.

These airlines are making hay while the sun shines. These prices are unbelievable taking advantage of the passengers who want to fly even on booked flights. Who is responsible to take care of this. There is somebody but nothing will happen. I too had a same experience some years back when I and my family was going back to New York via Mumbai. These airlines five flimsy reasons.

It is heart wrenching. Price of Airlines jumping from Rs 2000 to 16000 - 17,000 is too high and really taking advantage of rain/deluge putting the hapless passengers in quandary. In fact under this devastating situation like this ,one should show their sympathy, pity by extending their possible help but instead they are are showing their cruelty nature by increasing the price at skyrocketing level. One can't sustain this brunt of flight owners. Not only airlines showing their ugly side of the fact every time when the time is adverse trying their best to make quick bucks at the cost of poor travelers.Even the bus operators are not spared.
See now as the festival seasons are fast approaching, all the bus operators have already prepared blue print for the price increase during festive seasons.Poor travelers who want to visit their loved ones during festivals are trapped due to hefty increase in prices.|But they are not questioned by any of the concerned authorities, officials, departments, which is highly painful to digest. There are many people who are away from their kith and kin by gaining employment over there to earn some handsome income/ money in order to keep their family happy and to lead a better life are the real sufferers. In spite of many requests, protests nothing has happened yet and conditions are becoming bad to worst every year.I herewith appeal, request the concerned authorities, officials, departments to look into this seriousness of this matter, take appropriate action to stop this menace of increasing prices of airlines, buses during festive seasons in the best interest of poor travelers, who are longing to visit and meet their family members during the
festive season,do the needful.Hope everybody is watching this brutality by the airlines and bus operators. This is looting the poor passengers in the greed of money. Please put a full stop for this menace.
