Panaji, Aug 11: On Saturday, union minister of state for defence, Shripad Naik, stated that the estimated loss due to flooding in North Goa which took place in recent days, was around Rs 10 crore. He asserted that he would arrange a meet with Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Shah to seek support from the Centre.
Already over Rs 50 lac has been directed towards the affected areas from the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds. According to Naik, an evaluation is also to be carried out to assess accurate amount of loss, so that compensation can be provided.
Further, Naik stated that a team comprising of PWD officials and agriculture department have been formed to assess losses.
In the aftermath of the disaster, 300 farmers faced loss, 250 were evacuated, 100 houses were damaged, 77 people were rescued and 600 people from the relief centres have returned back home. He also stated that the state ended up receiving 67 per cent of its average rainfall in past seven days.
