Byndoor, Aug 11: Nandanavana School at Kergalu in the taluk collapsed due to heavy rain and strong current of winds on the night of Saturday, August 10.

Cracks had developed on the walls of the school on the afternoon of Saturday itself. The whole school collapsed with a huge sound at around 10 pm.

The whole building is damaged with the room at the centre turning into rubble.

Twenty-five students including LKG and UKG are studying in the school. There is a possibility that the school might have sunk into the ground because of the rise in level of water in the rivulet that flows nearby. This school has a history of over 100 years. This building was built 45 years ago.

MLA, officials from concerned departments and panchayat representatives have visited the spot and are investigating.
