Mangaluru, Aug 10: Judge of the sixth additional district and sessions court here, Syedunnisa, through a verdict delivered on Friday August 9, sentenced a person to life term besides imposing a fine of two lac rupees on him. Laxman Acharya (31), who has been found guilty in the case, had developed illicit relationship with a lady seven years ago at Marody village in Beltangady taluk. He had also raped and killed the lady in question.
A 40-year-old lady, who had been separated from her husband, was living alone in Marody village. Laxman Acharya from the same village used to visit her often. It is said that he had illicit relationship with her. After she insisted that he should marry her, he turned unhappy. It is said that he cajoled her to accompany him to Deraje hillock in Marody village at 2.30 pm on August 16, 2012, raped her there, and escaped after killing her.
On the basis of complaint filed by the brother of the deceased, the police had arrested Laxman on August 19 the same year. He had confessed to his crime. He had stolen a Karimani gold chain and ear rings worn by the woman on the day of her death. He had sold one of these ornaments and pledged the other in a finance company and raised loan.
Venoor police inspector Bhaskar Shetty, conducted investigation and filed charge sheet. 23 witnesses were examined in the case while 20 documents were scrutinized. Public prosecutor Judith O M Crasta, had appeared in the case on behalf of the prosecution.
