Beltangady: Vehicular traffic continues to be banned on Charmadi Ghat

Beltangady, Aug 9: Major work of clearing mud from areas on Charmadi Ghat stretch of national highway 73 where landslides were experienced, was completed on Thursday. But as a precaution, ban on traffic on this road will continue till midnight on Friday, the district administration said. 

This stretch of the road has witnessed small scale landslides in over 20 places. Mud and boulders which fell down at five places and caused major landslides were completely cleared. Over 30 trees have also fallen on this road. 

Because of chance of accidents, police van and SKSF team of Kakkinje cluster have been patrolling the area. Tahsildar, Ganapati Shastri, and forest officials along with highway engineers have camped at the spot. Locals said they faced problems because mobile network is not functional in Kottigehara area of the Ghat where electricity lay off is continuing.
