Goa assembly condoles Sushma Swaraj's death


Panaji, Aug 7 (IANS): The Goa legislative assembly on Wednesday condoled the death of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who moved the condolence motion said that Sushma Swaraj was an inspiration to all women and her loss was a major one for the BJP as well as the country.

"The country grieves for her," Sawant said, extolling her work as the previous External Affairs Minister.

Power Minister Nilesh Cabral said that although short in stature, Sushma Swaraj was a tall leader who commanded respect both in India as well as abroad.

Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate said that Sushma Swaraj was the physical embodiment of the phrase "all good things come in small packages", adding that she paved the way for women to succeed in politics.

Lawmakers from across party lines condoled her death during the discussion on the condolence motion.

Sushma Swaraj died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Tuesday night a following severe cardiac arrest. She was 67.
