Dubai, Aug 7: A mother of Syrian origin in the UAE is seeking free admission for her six-year-old daughter. The family has been currently living in desperate conditions since the time they fled the Syria war back in 2016.
The woman identified as Fatima Malik Rahmoum lives with her husband and their five children in Ajman. Her husband works as driver and earns AED 4,500 monthly, which falls short to sustain the entire family.
Fatima’s son during the war sustained severe face and head burns caused by an explosion, which is when the family decided to leave the country. The family ran out of all options and ended up sneaking into Turkey by paying $1,000 (AED 3,673) for each person. After living there for two months, they arrived in UAE.
At present three of Fatima’s kids are enrolled into charity schools, but unfortunately her daughter remains without education. "My husband works as driver and he does not earn enough to be able to pay AED 22,000 yearly rent and pay for tuition fees for the other children. I went to many schools to check out if they can help us, but all in vain,” Fatima said.
Fatima believes going back to Syria is not wise as the situation is quite volatile. She stated that the family even lost their house and going back would jeopardize the lives of their kids. According to Fatima, charity schools for low income families are getting crowded and therefore, getting admission is difficult.
Fatima also spoke of a British-curriculum school in Dubai which gave free spots to seven Syrian students, who are currently flourishing in their studies. She expressed that she wishes to have a similar future for her daughter as well.
