Belagavi, Aug 6: The road along National Highway-4 which connects the cities of Pune and Bengaluru cracked after a landslide took place following severe downpour. The incident took place on Monday night when the rains were lashing along the Karnataka-Maharashtra border. The stretch is usually has constant vehicular movement, unfortunately with the disaster that took place on night of August 5, the traffic came to a halt.
The affected area is reported to be at Shiroli, near Kolhapur. With the cracked up road, government authorities and officials of National Highways Authority of India stopped the movement of vehicles. According to sources, damage of this magnitude will take several man-hours to resolve it, until then the movement of vehicles will be disrupted.
The reason for the route being busy is because it connects Belagavi to Pune via Kolhapur. Further, the region of Kolhapur is predicted to receive higher rainfall in the coming four days according to the reports of Regional Meterological Centre, Mumbai.
