Mangaluru, Aug 6: Both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts received good rain since the wee hours on Monday August 5. Almost all the areas in the two districts received good rainfall.
Because of strong wind which was experienced in Udupi region starting at around 7.30 pm on Monday, a transformer near MJC Ground Manipal crashed to the ground and over five electric poles got uprooted. Power supply was affected in Manipal, Udupi and surrounding areas as distribution network was affected. Telephone lines and mobile networks of several villages including Subrahmanya got severed due to rain.
Three houses in Bantwal taluk were damaged due to rain on Monday. Revenue officials visited the spot and assessed the loss.
In a number of places, fallen trees snapped power supply, plunging villages and towns into darkness. As a measure of abundance precaution, holiday has been declared in Beltangady, Puttur and Kadaba taluks for students right from Anganwadi to PU colleges on Tuesday, said block education officer.
