Dubai, Aug 5: A 30-year-old Syrian salesman has been charged by the Dubai Court of First Instance for allegedly sexually harassing a woman whilst showing her perfumes.
As per public prosecution on May 18, the salesman grabbed the hand of the Ghanaian woman by force and made her touch him while he presented perfumes to her at his stall at the Dragon Mart. The woman filed a complaint against him at Al Rashidiya police station. Public prosecutor referred him to trial and requested the court to inflict the maximum punishment on him as per the law.
As reported in Khaleej Times, during the public prosecution investigation, the complainant said that she was at the Dragon Mart where she worked on May 18. "It was around 11 pm. The defendant, who also works there, offered me to try some perfumes. I tried one brand which I did not like. As I was about to leave, he grabbed me forcibly by my hand and pulled me towards him." She recalled in front of the investigator how the accused then made her touch him.
The woman left the shopping centre and headed straight to the police station to report the incident. She identified the salesman three times among other suspects shown to her by the police. The trial has been adjourned to September 8.
