Dubai, Aug 3: In a bid to gain popularity on social media, a man who threw money into the air, was arrested by police in Dubai.

In the footage released by police, the man, reportedly an Asian, is seen tossing a pile of notes in a public area. The police's department of electronic investigation undertook a probe soon after which the man was arrested.

The man confessed that he posted the video in a bid to increase popularity on social media.

Dubai police have neither disclosed if the money the man allegedly tossed into the air in the footage was Emirates currency, nor what specific law he violated.

Following the incident, director of security media at Dubai Police, Col Faisal Al Qasim urged members of the public to use social media responsibly and refrain from behaviour which may breach the values, cultures and traditions of the UAE.
